The appellant sought to challenge the decision of the Kualasimpang Shari'a Court (lower court), which had stipulated as joint assets of the parties a two-storey shophouse, household appliances and furniture, and a debt of IDR 27 million. The lower court also granted the respondent custody of the parties' child, and ordered the appellant to pay to the respondent child maintenance for two children until they became of age.
The Court concurred with the majority of the lower court's judgment, however, it clarified that the joint debt of IDR 27 million should have been categorised as a counterclaim on the part of the appellant.
