Sukamara Regency Regulation No. 5 of 2006 on the Prohibition on Alcoholic Beverages

This regional regulation is an example of a legislative instrument that, arguably, Islamises public life, without making any reference to Islam or religion (agama). It places a prohibition on the production, storage, possession, consumption, supply, distribution, and sale of all types of alcholic beverage in the region (art 2). The only exemption applies in the case of rituals that use palm wine (art 3(1)). Contravention of art 2 carries a maximum penalty of six months' imprisonment and a fine of IDR 5 million (art 6(1)).
