Project Profile

Each SHARIAsource Country Profile provides a basic overview of the legal history, institutional structures, and role (or lack thereof) of Islamic law in every country of the world: both member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, which includes some non-Muslim majority countries, and non-members. Our Country Profiles draw, in substantial part, on research produced by the Library of Congress, GlobaLex  at NYU, and The Constitute Project at the University of Chicago.*

*GlobaLex is an electronic legal publication committed to the dissemination of high-level international, foreign, and comparative law research to accommodate the needs of an increasingly global educational and practicing legal world. The articles published by GlobaLex represent both research and teaching resources used by legal academics, practitioners and other specialists around the world who are active either in foreign, international, and comparative law research or those focusing on their own domestic law. The articles are written by scholars well known in their respective fields and are recommended as a legal resource by universities, library schools, and legal training courses. It was founded in 2006 and has been published since by the Hauser Global Law School Program at NYU School of Law.

For an extended list of legal resources for this country, see the Library of Congress’s Research Guide. The Constitution is available in the LOC Guide in its original language and at Constitute in English translation. For full versions of past constitutions, amendments, and related legislation, see HeinOnline World Constitutions Illustrated or Oxford Constitutions of the World [subscription required for each].
