Tanjung Pinang Religious Court Decision No. 55 of 2015: Revocable Divorce Application Withdrawn

The parties were married on 23 December 1997 and had three children (aged 15, 14 and 8). The marriage deteriorated and, in January 2015, the parties separated. On 22 January 2015, the applicant filed for a divorce. The applicant submitted that during the marriage:

  1. the respondent admitted to having had an extra-marital affair with another man; and
  2. the respondent had showed insufficient care for the applicant and their children.

The applicant submitted to the court that the marriage was irreconcilable and requested permission to divorce the respondent (talak satu raj’i).

The parties attended court-sanctioned mediation, which made them reconcile their differences. The applicant withdrew his application on 10 February 2015. The court acceded to the withdrawal and ordered the applicant to pay court costs (IDR 391,000).
