The accused was alleged to have conducted gambling activities on or around 6 February 2012, in contravention of arts 5 and 23(1) of Aceh Qanun No. 13 of 2003 on Gambling. Items used by the accused in these illicit activities had been seized to be destroyed, while IDR 175,000 in cash had also been seized to be surrendered to the Langsa Treasury (Baitul Mal).
Information provided by two witnesses corroborated with the prosecution's submissions. While the court acknowledged that the accused had expressed remorse for his conduct, it nevertheless found him guilty. Citing Surah Al-Baqarah verse 219, and Surah Al-Maidah verse 90, the court, pursuant to art 23(1), sentenced the accused to six strokes of the cane.
