Banjar Regency Regulation No. 5 of 2006 on the Writing of Identity in Arab Malay Script

The purpose of this regional regulation, according to art 2, that being to implement the writing of identities in Arab Malay script, is to uphold Islamic nuance in Banjar regency, in accordance with the Martapura predicate as the municipal veranda to Mecca (Kota Serambi Mekkah). Pursuant to art 5, the name of every office, school, business, shop, and every written identity of both regional government and private organisations in Banjar, must (wajib) be written in Arab Malay script. Failure to abide by art 5 carries a maximum penalty of three months' imprisonment and/or a fine of IDR 25 million (art 7(1)).
