South Pesisir Regency Regulation No. 8 of 2004 on the Obligation for Proficiency in Reading the Qur'an and Prayer for Muslim School Children and Prospective Brides and Bridegrooms

This regional regulation is designed to mould Muslim school children, as well as prospective brides and bridegrooms, into Muslims who reflect all the humanly qualities and characteristics contained in the Qur'an. That is, it aims to ensure that these people have a basic understanding of Islamic life, and conduct themselves as good, upstanding and God-mindful Muslims, both as members of society, as well as Indonesian citizens. More specifically, the regulation maintains that proficiency in reading the Qur'an, as well as praying (shalat), will assist students in learning Islamic values, and for prospective brides and bridegrooms in forming a peaceful, hopeful and loving (sakinah, mawaddah, warahmah) family.
