Joshua Roose is a political sociologist. His research interests include Islam in western contexts, political Islam, sharia and legal pluralism, multiculturalism and citizenship. He has written numerous peer-reviewed articles about these subjects in key journals. Roose is a visiting research scholar at the East Asian Legal Studies Program at Harvard Law School and has been a visiting scholar at New York University and the City University of New York. He is the Legal Theory Section Associate Editor for the Wiley Blackwell Encyclopaedia of Social Theory, due for release in 2015. He currently sits on the Attorney-General’s Department’s National Panel of Experts for Countering Violent Extremism and is the Secretary of The Australian Sociological Association (TASA).He received his PhD from the University of Melbourne’s Asia Institute in 2012 for his dissertation Muslim Men as Political Actors in Australia.
