Bima Regency Regulation No. 5 of 2013 on the Prohibition on the Production, Sale, Circulation, and Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages

This regional regulation is an example of a regulation that, arguably, Islamises public life without making any specific reference to Islamic or religion (agama). Pursuant to art 4(1) of this regulation, all persons and legal entities are prohibited from producing, selling, circulating, and consuming alcoholic beverages. Moreover, all persons are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages, however packaged, into Bima regency (art 4(2)). Contravention of either of these sub-articles carries a maximum penalty of six months' imprisonment or IDR 50 million (art 10(1)).
